Being unable to attend does not have to mean waiting for occasional messages or asking for the result after the final point. Match Update lets one person score courtside while trusted people follow the same match from their own Apple devices.
One match, two very different places.
Imagine a junior match on a weekday afternoon. One parent can be at the club recording each point. Another can open Match Update from somewhere else and see the score, server, elapsed time and progress through the match.
The scorer stays focused on a simple courtside view. Followers receive a read-only experience, so nobody away from the court can accidentally change the score.
When this helps
Use live following when family members cannot all attend, when a coach wants to keep an eye on a player’s match, or when friends want more context than a final result in a group chat.
Private by default.
Following is not a public website or an open scoreboard. The match is shared with people you choose through Apple’s iCloud infrastructure. They accept the invitation and follow inside Match Update.
Only one device records an active match. That keeps the official score clear while everyone else watches its progress.
Close to the match, even from far away.
Updates depend on iCloud and the available connection, so they may not always arrive at precisely the same instant as the point. The experience is designed to keep followers reassuringly close to the action without distracting the person scoring courtside.
